From sensor signal to web visualization
Many production facilities use a variety of sensors. However, centrally analyzing their data across multiple locations is not always easy. This is where the EG222 Smart Edge Gateway comes in.
The gateway captures analog and digital sensor signals directly at the plant and transmits the data in encrypted form via MQTTS to the cloud. If no LAN infrastructure is available, communication can alternatively take place via an LTE module. This allows even decentralized plants and measurement points to be connected—such as pumping systems in agriculture, level monitoring of storage tanks, or other distributed infrastructures.
The EG222 supports analog voltage and current signals as well as digital HTL and PNP signals. Via the integrated RS232 interface, it can also be used as a MODBUS gateway. With an appropriate converter, devices with an RS485 interface can also be connected. Expansion modules enable the processing of additional signal types such as frequencies, SSI signals, and pulses. This simplifies the integration of existing sensor systems.
When used in conjunction with the sens2cloud IIoT platform, you can configure devices, visualize data, and create custom dashboards via a browser-based interface—regardless of your location. You can also define threshold values. If these values are exceeded or not met, the appropriate personnel can be notified via email. This ensures that production data is available at any time, anywhere in the world.
Edge computing for modern IIoT architectures
In edge computing concepts, data is processed close to the machine. Only relevant information is transmitted to the cloud. This can reduce network load, increase response speed, and contribute to data security.
The EG222 serves as an interface between sensor technology and cloud infrastructure. Local data acquisition and preprocessing create an efficient, scalable foundation for Industry 4.0 applications. At the same time, traditional sensor signals can still be used—which simplifies integration into existing systems.
Flexible dashboards for greater transparency
With sens2cloud, process data can be customized. Dashboards can be flexibly configured, and access rights can be defined based on different user roles. This allows, for example, production metrics, machine statuses, or energy consumption to be clearly displayed and monitored.
You keep an eye on your processes—right at the machine, in the control room, or from your home office. Cross-site applications are also possible. This is particularly advantageous for distributed production structures and international plant concepts.
Focus on security and data sovereignty
Cybersecurity and data protection are key issues for cloud-based solutions. motrona relies on a cloud infrastructure hosted in the EU and state-of-the-art security measures. Data is transmitted in encrypted form via TLS. Two-factor authentication provides additional protection against unauthorized access to the sens2cloud platform.
For enhanced security requirements, a unique device key can be generated using a USB flash drive. This allows you to set up different security levels: Depending on the selected level, the device can only be unlocked or authorized for configuration changes with the corresponding, physically connected key. This provides an additional layer of protection against unauthorized access.
sens2cloud can also be integrated into existing IT and cloud systems via an API interface. This allows you to flexibly expand your software landscape while maintaining control over your data.
Future-Proof Visualization for Industry 4.0
Cloud-based visualization supports data-driven decision-making, predictive maintenance, and the transparent control of manufacturing processes. The motrona Smart Edge Gateway EG222, in combination with sens2cloud, makes it easy to get started with IIoT and the smart factory.
Flexible sensor connectivity, secure cloud communication, and intuitive visualization combine to create a powerful solution for transparently displaying, analyzing, and continuously optimizing production processes.
